What Is I Am: Celine Dion About?
I Am: Celine Dion will provide a look into the Canadian singer’s life and her recent diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome. It was directed by Academy Award nominee Irene Taylor serving as a love letter to Dion’s fans. A press release from Amazon MGM Studios says the documentary will “highlight the music that has guided [Celine’s] life while also showcasing the resilience of the human spirit.”

What Is Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS)?
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) is “a rare autoimmune neurological disorder that most commonly causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms.” Other symptoms include unsteady gait, double vision, or slurred speech. It often develops in people around ages 40 to 50 and is more common in men than women.
Though there is no treatment to cure Stiff Person Syndrome, there are many ways to combat the disorder including working with a specialist. This can make it easier to live with SPS, and can also slow the progression of the disorder.

Prime Video released a trailer for I Am: Celine Dion on May 23rd, revealing Celine Dion’s condition hindering her ability to tour and her desire to talk about SPS and how it’s affected her life. In the background are pieces and parts of Dion’s hit songs, with images of her kids, performances, and current life. It should be interesting to see how this has affected her and how it will give a new focus on SPS survivors.
