The television adaption of Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty created an impact last summer with a variety of young adult romance and drama. Isabel “Belly” Conklin, the primary character, was brought to life by Lola Tung as she made her way back to Cousins Beach, where she had spent every summer of her youth with Susannah Fisher, her mother’s best friend, and her boys Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
Belly’s transformation was noted by the Fisher brothers, but before things got too complicated, she decided to start dating Cam Cameron (David Iacono). The plot of the previous season was driven by a volleyball tournament, a debutante ball, and a few relationships in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap.
Weekly new episodes of Season 2 began airing on July 14 and built upon the events that brought Season 1 to a close, including Susannah’s cancer diagnosis, Belly and Conrad’s kiss, and others. Elsie Fisher and Kyra Sedgwick joined Season 2 in new roles that didn’t exist in Han’s books (or the previous season). SnipDaily has gone over the key moments of Season 1 to jog memories before plunging into the first three episodes that release with the show’s premiere in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap.
The entire first season of The Summer I Turned Pretty is summarized here.
Summer House
In the first episode, “Summer House,” the Fisher family, which consists of Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) and her two sons Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), welcomes back the Conklin family, Belly, her mother Laurel (Jackie Chung), and her older brother Steven (Sean Kaufman). The children grew up together because these two families have been friends for a very long time. According to Belly, they go see them during the summer to unwind and spend time together. She also admits that she had a crush on Conrad and may or may not still feel the same way about him.
Belly is hoping for continuity. Belly, who is now clearly more grown and free of braces and glasses, is what changed this time around in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap. Belly is startled when Jeremy gives her a bear hug as a greeting, but she brushes Conrad’s odd behavior aside for the time being. She’s just glad to be back, after all.

Meeting Cam
Belly meets Cam (David Iacono), a bashful whale enthusiast with curly hair, at a bonfire party that her brother forbade her from attending. She runs across Cam as she is having a break and finds herself alone. When they learn that they had previously met at a Latin conference in seventh grade, they become fast friends in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap. They complete the conversation with a sweet kiss before Belly departs. The gang is reprimanded by Laurel as they enter their home. However, Belly appears to be quite excited and texts her best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer) about it.
Belly and Cam continue to get to know one another in Cousins Beach over the course of the following few days as they go on little dates, discover one another’s interests, and just enjoy being together. This is a sweet first romance for Belly. Even at one point, the lads interrupt the couple as they are having a drive-in movie date, much to Belly’s chagrin in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap. While all of this was going on, Belly was still attempting to understand her feelings for Conrad, which were becoming clear to Cam.
Cam once invites Belly to hang out. Even though Belly thinks Cam is a fantastic guy, she doesn’t want to lead him on because she can’t make herself love him the way he deserves to be loved, she admits as they sit on the beach. And with that, this summer romance has come to an end. For those who want to see more of Cam, the second season will feature him again in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap!

What about Jeremiah?
Jeremiah confessed his more-than-friendly love for Belly halfway through Season 1, and she responded by kissing him. From that point forward, they started a romance, but they never called it that. In Han’s first book, Belly didn’t react to Jeremiah’s feelings.
In order to earn money for a good cause, Susannah planned a volleyball tournament. Belly enlisted Taylor to join her squad in the sand court. The bracket was so tight that the brothers and sisters had to play each other in the championship game for Steven, Shayla, and their other team. Taylor claimed to have “hurt her ankle” and asked Jeremiah to fill in for her in an effort to gain Belly’s affection in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap. For the most part, Jer and Belly played incredibly well, but he later became preoccupied and failed to dive for the ball.
Belly, who became extremely competitive on the court, begged Conrad to replace Jeremiah, and they ultimately defeated Steven and Shayla to win the entire tournament. The moment Susannah approached them to see if Conrad had asked Belly yet, Belly recognized that he hadn’t just offered to go to the deb ball with her out of the blue in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap.

The Moms’ Friendship
One of the most endearing aspects of this show, aside from the teenagers and their issues, is Susannah and Laurel’s unadulterated friendship. They have experienced both good times and bad. Laurel is a loving mother and is frequently very strict in many areas in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap. She recently went through a divorce and is currently looking for herself again. Susannah, on the other hand, is always the life of the party and is more laid-back and upbeat about life. She has a problematic marriage because she caught her husband with his secretary.
One of the greatest arguments between these two ladies occurred in Episode 4, “Summer Heat,” when Laurel surreptitiously invited Susannah’s ex-husband Adam to their Fourth of July celebration. At this point, Susannah opens out to Laurel about her marriage. The fact that her ex-husband and his new partner are also attending the party presents Laurel with a problem of her own and makes her feel a little uneasy. However, because Susannah and Laurel are real-life platonic soulmates, they reconcile quickly in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap.

Belly and Nicole
Belly and Nicole got out to a difficult start, but because Nicole served as Belly’s “big sister” for the ball, the two grew close. That is, until Nicole realized Conrad had emotions for Belly. After realizing Conrad had texted Belly’s phone instead of Nicole’s, Gigi (Lilah Pate) and Nicole abandoned Belly and Taylor in the water without any clothing on. This text occurred after the girls decided to go skinny dipping one night in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap. After failing to walk home, the brothers pick them up while using a towel as cover.
Belly wanted to go with Jeremiah at that point since she was furious with Conrad. When she did, he accompanied her to second base after she asked him to go on her date to the Deb Ball.
The Debutante Ball
Though there were also humorous and romantic moments, the entire season built up to what turned out to be a terrible debutante ball for many people involved. Jeremiah accompanied Belly on her date, but he had been sensing something wasn’t quite right with his mother all summer. He heard Belly’s parents discussing the cancer diagnosis as she fell at the ball’s entrance in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap.
When Cleveland helped Conrad recover from a panic episode, Conrad previously told Cleveland Castillo (Alfredo Narciso) that he was aware of his mother’s cancer. Susannah’s phone was taken by Jeremiah, who then sneaked outside to check her emails. Of course, this happened just before the debs were set to dance with their dates in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap. In a clever move timed to “The Way I Loved You (Taylor’s Version),” Conrad approached Belly to dance when his brother was nowhere to be seen. He admitted that he was relieved it was him because he knew exactly what to do.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap Conclusion
After a spectacular deb ball when Jeremiah started a fight with Conrad to end the evening, Belly, Steven, and the boys found out that Susannah had been diagnosed with cancer. The mothers’ subsequent emotional interactions with their kids tore hearts apart. The show finished on a positive note when Susannah gave in to her sons’ demands to participate in a treatment study. Conrad and Belly had a conversation on the beach after Belly had gone there. Finally, they shared a kiss while listening to “This Love (Taylor’s Version)” in this The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap.
