Fans of Outer Banks should be prepared for some unfavorable news regarding Outer Banks season 4. The Outer Banks season 4 premiere date will be delayed even more than we anticipated.
According to a source from WSPA, the SAG-AFTRA strike that started on July 14, 2023, caused the production of Outer Banks season 4 to cease.
One of the most-watched shows in 2023 is Outer Banks. The third season began airing on February 23, 2023. On February 18, Netflix revealed that the well-liked adolescent show would be coming back for a fourth season during the Poguelandia fan event! Just a few days before the start of Outer Banks season 3, the renewal was announced.
We made the decision to compile all the knowledge we have about Outer Banks season 4 so far into a guide to share with you in order to keep readers and fans up to date on the most recent Outer Banks news. More information needs to be made public as the show progresses through the filming process. You can depend on Snip Daily to provide every new piece of information as it becomes available.
The Strike
After the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) failed to present the WGA with a settlement that suited their requirements, the WGA (Writers Guild of America) went on strike in May 2023. The AMPTP and the WGA have not engaged in negotiations since then.
The actors are also on strike since negotiations between SAG (Screen Actors Guild) and the AMPTP broke down in the middle of July.
The Outer Banks cast is SAG-affiliated, thus they won’t start filming until the AMPTP extends a new contract to the actors’ union. Outer Banks season 4 managed to continue filming throughout the writers’ strike, as have other shows, but the actors’ strike put an abrupt end to business as usual.

Release Date
We’re probably looking at a release sometime in 2024 before Netflix officially announces the release date for Outer Banks season 4. Due to the early renewal of the series, filming may begin soon, with a potential release date of early to mid-2024.
If the story about production beginning in June 2023 is true, it’s an extremely excellent sign that Outer Banks season 4 will be released in 2024. The biggest surprise is how large production this is. Will they travel to the Caribbean or South America once more to film instead of South Carolina?
There is a strong likelihood that Outer Banks season 4 will be released in the summer or fall of 2024 if production is completed by year’s end. Additionally, we are aware that the second season of Wednesday and Stranger Things will most certainly debut in 2024. We must assume that Netflix will phase out some of its most popular teen programs in 2024, including Wednesday, Outer Banks, Ginny and Georgia (which was recently renewed for two more seasons), and Stranger Things.
We don’t anticipate having to wait as long as we did for the third season to see Outer Banks season 4. But as we get farther along in the production process, we’ll have a better notion of when the fourth season might be available on Netflix.
The writers’ strike and the actors’ strike, as previously indicated, are undoubtedly among the factors that could postpone the release of Outer Banks season 4. The sooner Outer Banks season 4 is available on Netflix, the sooner the studios and networks may reach an agreement with the writers and actors.
For now, Outer Banks season 4 should air by the end of the summer of 2024 assuming the AMPTP provides the authors and performers an agreement by the fall and production can start up again on schedule.
TUDUM Updates
Principal photography on Outer Banks season 4 is rumored to have begun as of June 16, 2023. The rumor has it that the filming started on June 12. According to reports, the actors and crew were seen working on this day in Charleston, South Carolina.
A casting call for extras for the first week of filming went out on June 10, with the start date set for Monday, June 12. This essentially verifies that production has begun. But bear in mind that Netflix has yet to formally declare that filming has started.
The Outer Banks creators and writers were reportedly in the middle of writing the fourth season when season 3 debuted, according to TUDUM.
That’s encouraging news for the cast and crew of Outer Banks season 4 to resume production shortly. There was a well-known rumor from Deux Moi that Outer Banks season 4 filming would begin in South Carolina in May 2023. This, however, never actually occurred. The production would be finished by the end of the year, according to Deux Moi. Now, this could be accurate.
Bailey reportedly also indicated that Outer Banks season 4 filming will begin this summer. Bailey added that Charleston, South Carolina, will be the location of the filming. So, the rumor may have some basis in reality.

Filming Hangups
The writers’ strike is the real kicker. Will Outer Banks season 4 production begin without the writers, like we’ve seen with House of the Dragon, Rings of Power, and a few other programs, even if the scripts are finished? We’ll have to wait and see about that.
Production on Outer Banks season 4 began in June 2023, according to the most recent issue of Production Weekly. It’s difficult to tell if that means they’ll start filming in June or if the cast is merely getting ready for the start of shooting this summer. When Chase Stokes appears at Tudum on June 17th, we’ll probably learn more about the production.
Unfortunately, as of July 14, the show is not filming due to the SAG strike. Outer Banks season 4 should begin filming right now if the AMPTP provides the union with a new contract, as was previously stated.

Returning Cast
There are already a lot of known faces returning for Outer Banks Season 4, as was shown in the aforementioned Season 4 teaser. Along with Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara Carrera, other actors who co-star in the show include Chase Stokes as John B. Routledge, Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Jonathan ‘J.D.’ Daviss as Pope Heyward, Carlacia Grant as Cleo, Rudy Pankow as JJ Maybank, Austin North as Topper, and Drew Starkey as Rafe Cameron. Of course, there are other outstanding actors who make up the adored and invariably memorable Outer Banks cast that have not yet been announced, such as David Jensen who plays Wes Genrette, although the conclusion of Season 3 would likely imply he will be back.
At the conclusion of Season 3, Jensen is the one who asks the Pogues if they would like to go on another search for Blackbeard’s riches.
The casting of new actors will probably be revealed later in the production. The good news is that Josh Pate, Shannon Burke, and Jonas Pate—co-creators, showrunners, and executive producers—will all be back for Outer Banks season 4.

Streaming and Trailer
Outer Banks Season 4 will be accessible on Netflix, just as its predecessors. A normal plan with advertisements costs $6.99 per month, while an ad-free subscription is available for $9.99 per month for anyone who does not currently have a Netflix subscription and wants one in time for the premiere of Season 4. Of course, the new Netflix crackdown on password sharing has generated a lot of discussion, and individuals who wish to stream on several devices have access to alternate subscription plans.
Although a complete trailer for Outer Banks Season 4 has not yet been published because filming is still ongoing, a teaser video for the new season was released in June and can be seen above. The 40-second teaser almost serves as a cast announcement trailer for the upcoming series, bringing back the much-loved Pogues to fans’ screens once more. The excitement for the upcoming season is bigger than ever thanks to the return of so many familiar names to the fans’ joy.
Outer Banks Season 4: the Plot
The Pogues experience a brief idyll on their desert island, Poguelandia, in season 3. Of course, the tranquility does not last for very long. After their lives are threatened, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo are ultimately drawn back into the treasure search.
Although the Outer Banks Season 4 plot has not yet been revealed, we may anticipate another dangerous treasure search. (However, surpassing El Dorado might be difficult.) When asked why Big John went AWOL for the gold earlier this year, Davis previously told Entertainment Weekly, “This season, things become more evident about what’s so significant about the gold. When the answers to all those questions become clear, you see how far over their level these kids were the entire time.
With the release of Outer Banks season 3, we now have a clear notion of what might occur next. A man approaches the Pogues with a proposal as the new season comes to a close. He possesses a map from 1718 that provides details about English pirate Edward Teach, sometimes known as Blackbeard, who cruised the OBX. We may anticipate that the group will be searching for more gold in Outer Banks season 4 because it is rumored that he has hidden riches.
That seems to be the course the Pogues are taking in season 4 at first glance. It will be interesting to watch how the Pogues changed after winning (and losing) at the end of season 3.
We also have Topper, who went full Dark Topper by destroying the Chateau near the conclusion of the season after witnessing his rivals receiving praise, and Rafe, whose father recently passed away. Will they be interested in sharing this Blackbeard loot? Rafe and Barry must be assumed to be involved.
We’ll update this page as soon as Netflix releases the official Outer Banks season 4 summary!
