WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki were all envisioned as limited series when Marvel Studios originally announced its partnership with Disney+ to create television programs. Each program featured prominent Marvel Cinematic Universe stars who required the most flexible obligations, so the proposal made perfect sense. The first two series adhered to this strategy as their stories were (or will be) continued in the Marvel movies, but Loki shocked audiences by announcing its return in the final seconds of what turned out to be season 1. The plot needs to go on, especially given where Loki Laufeyson (Tom Hiddleston) ended up.
Naturally, after that, there was a little period of silence. Other Marvel movies and television series caught viewers’ attention, key creatives moved on, and Loki season 2 quietly carried on. However, when it was revealed in mid-May that the show would return in October, we started digging through our Time Variance Authority files to see what we could learn about Loki’s second season and how it related to the larger MCU tapestry. Join us as we assess Loki’s current situation, the possibility that his foe is a new person while being well known, and what it means for everyone’s favorite troublemaker to start over in Loki season 2.
Loki season 2 will start on Disney Plus on October 6, 2023, and fresh episodes will air every Friday through November 10.
The Trailer
He’s back at the TVA in the first Loki season 2 trailer, which is available now. When he isn’t “timeslipping,” or getting hurled across time and landing in different temporal hotspots throughout history. While Ke Huy Quan’s new character OB is approached for answers, he is still lacking them for Loki. You can see the entire teaser above. In addition, we get a glimpse of He Who Remains’ hideout and have an encounter with Sylvie.
The Disney Plus 2023 trailer for Loki season 2 gave us our first look at brand-new material. A peek of the God of Mischief and Mobius dressed in suits may be seen among images of Loki looking worried and Sylvie looking frustrated.
Disney also unveiled some new material in September during the D23 Expo 2022. The teaser hasn’t yet found its way online, but Total Film was on the scene in LA to give us the lowdown and explained how Loki season 2 had a spooky vibe.
At it, Loki reveals the villain’s face hidden behind a wall at the TVA and informs Mobius of what happened with He Who Remains (Jonathan Major) in the season 1 finale. Then he claims that when history split apart following Sylvie’s failed effort to murder the villain at the end of season 1, he witnessed terrible, terrible things. Strange, huh?

Casting
In Loki season 2, Tom Hiddleston will be joined by Jonathan Majors as Kang, Owen Wilson as Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Eugene Cordero as Casey AKA Hunter K-5E, and Sophia DiMartino. She was recently seen on set with Hiddleston, confirming the latter’s return as Sylvie. She might be seen outside of a McDonald’s in some photos that were leaked, drinking from a straw-and-disposable-cup combination. Her attire has been compared by some fans to the 1970s McDonald’s workers’ outfits in a striking way.
Rafael Casal and Everything Everywhere All At Once star Ke Huy Quan joined the cast, it was revealed at D23 Expo 2022, when Disney teased a number of its new projects.
Kate Herron, the show’s creator, recently disclosed her departure from Loki season 2 and said she never intended to do a second season. Next season, I’m extremely excited to see it as a fan, Herron told Deadline. “I simply feel pleased with what we accomplished here and I gave it everything I had.”
Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson, however, have agreed to serve as directors. Deadline reports that they would “co-direct the majority of the episodes for Loki season 2.” The team most recently worked together to helm two episodes of Moon Knight, a Marvel television series starring Oscar Isaac as a superhero with dissociative identity disorder.
The writers from the first season, Michael Waldron and Eric Martin, are prepared to return, albeit Martin will take over Waldron’s directing responsibilities.
We may need to take this one with a grain of salt, but MCU leaker Cinestealth allegedly said that Henry Cavill is in talks to portray Marcus Milton/Hyperion, according to Inverse.

Loki Season 2: The Plot
There was a lot of space for interpretation in Loki Season 2 after the Season 1 conclusion. He Who Remains gave Loki and Sylvie two choices when fans last saw him: either kill him and watch as his versions obliterate the Sacred Timeline, or allow the timeline to continue under the authority of the Time Variance Authority.
In vengeance for all the hardships she had to endure during her life, Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie killed him. According to Mobius, this caused the MCU timeline to split into the multiverse almost instantly, and “63 new branches” soon followed. In a recent teaser, Tom Hiddleston hinted that Season 2 would be about “the war for the soul of the TVA.”
A big impact from the Sacred Timeline’s collapse was somewhat predicted. After killing He Who Remains, Sylvie forces Loki through the time portal, and Loki ends himself at a Time Variance Authority where no one remembers him. Finding a solution for this parallel reality TVA won’t be easy for the God of Mischief.
Similarly, Loki Season 2 will be the season to find out what happened to the TVA employees who were all removed from their timelines and made to forget their past lives. Furthermore, Owen Wilson has stated that Loki Season 2 will go further into Mobius’s story, perhaps disclosing his life before the TVA, adding:
“I thought I would have a good time but I really enjoyed it. I’ve been lucky working on a million movies and always having a good time but on that one, I had a really great time and that continued on Loki Season 2. Maybe even moreso because we were filming in London and being there at Pinewood but yeah, [his story] just goes deeper.”

Production and Direction
Screenwriter for Loki, Michael Waldron, hinted at potential series developments in May of last year. Waldron was asked if Loki’s second season might be more bizarre than the first in an interview with Polygon that was timed to another Marvel project he developed, a short film called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Waldron remarked, “I don’t know if I could go any weirder than we went in Season One. “We had a kiddie pool with an alligator drinking champagne out of it. That felt as strange as the pinnacle of Mount Everest! I believe there are numerous opportunities there. Although we constantly strive to surpass ourselves, hopefully, this is always motivated by character. And yes, this film taught me once more that no notion is too insane.”
Marvel Studios is in charge of producing Loki Season 2, and Eric Martin is the main writer. The directing crew is led by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who have already worked on two episodes of Moon Knight (2022), another Marvel Studios production. Executive producers Tom Hiddleston and Michael Waldron, who served as the show’s primary writer in the first season, are back. The show’s director of photography is Isaac Bauman, and the composer from the first season is Natalie Holt. Tom Hiddleston, Michael Waldron, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Victoria Alonso are on the list of executive producers for Loki Season 2.

Season 2 Theories
There are many hypotheses about Loki season 2 because the previous season finished in complete turmoil. In addition to Loki being trapped in another reality and a much more terrifying version of He Who Remains taking control, Sylvie started a multiverse war.
There is a statue of Kang the Conqueror in the new timeframe Loki is locked in. This suggests that Kang, a reincarnation of He Who Remains, has assumed control over the TVA and possibly all other timelines, though Quantumania throws things into some uncertainty. Given that Kang appears to be dead, it’s possible that he either survived his conflict with the ant family or that the Kang in charge of the TVA is a completely different Kang.
According to Nerdist, Sylvie might remember Loki even though Mobius and Hunter B-15 don’t in this scenario. Given that Sylvie was the one who killed He Who Remains and banished Loki to this alternate universe, this is conceivable.
Given that Kang’s lover in the comics is Ravonna’s character, an EliteDaily theory postulates that Kang might end up falling in love with Ravonna.
According to FandomWire, a TVA insurrection might be imminent. Loki is the only person who can restore the memories of the TVA foot soldiers as all of them had their memories of the killing of He Who Remains erased. The TVA could overthrow Kang if they remember the trauma of being abducted from their own timelines and then brainwashed.
The most intriguing notion, which is related to the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home, is that Loki could join forces with Wanda/Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange now that the multiverse is open. Other MCU characters could perhaps appear in another timeline; it’s not completely impossible.
Some ideas were also prompted by images from the Loki season 2 set. Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), who was mentioned in Ms. Marvel, was found on a movie poster. He is a Bollywood star and a part-time Eternal in the MCU, as is well known. Additionally, another poster promotes the movie “Zaniac.” Unknown Thor antagonist Zaniac possesses the power to possess victims and force them to carry out horrific killings. He might appear in Loki season 2 already. We’ll simply have to wait and see what Marvel has in store, it seems.
