Based off recent data, 24% of Super Bowl 54 viewers will be streaming Sunday’s game — and the news is even better for Amazon.
AdTaxi came out with the study of streaming numbers for the big matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. For Amazon, though, the big endorsement: Fire TV is Fox’s 4K Super Bowl streaming device of preference, per Cord Cutters News.
While 4K Ultra HD is available through the Fox Sports app and will also stream on FoxSports.com in HD, Super Bowl LIV is the first ever such game to have this high-quality resolution.
Amazon’s built-in NFL relationship
Apple TV and Roku are also streaming the contest in 4K. However, Fox endorses Amazon, which only leverages Prime Video’s streaming future.
Amazon Prime Video is already the home for streaming the NFL’s Thursday Night Football. That’s gone extremely well over the past several years.
Plus, the streamer has an original series every year titled All or Nothing. It follows one pro football team for the entire season, giving a Hard Knocks-style, behind-the-scenes look at the action through the grind of the year.
With a track record of that quality of coverage, it makes sense Fox would give Amazon Fire TV the bump in Super Bowl streaming plugs.
This also helps Amazon’s bid to expand their partnership with the NFL. YouTube TV is making a major push, though, which you can read more about below.
Cord-cutters signal new home entertainment era
Cord-cutters have an unprecedented amount of high-caliber options to view the Super Bowl. In addition to streaming in 4K across multiple devices and platforms, there is the traditional pay TV route.
Here’s the fun catch, though: Hulu Live TV, YouTube TV and Sling TV offer packages that include Fox — as does fuboTV. It’s not necessary to be stuck in a bloated cable contract for the biggest game in sports.
Another option is to simply use an antenna for local channels only, but if you’re reading this, chances are that’s not the route you’re going.
The numbers show that the 24% of Super Bowl streamers is up 3% from last year. That’s not a lot, yet after this year’s 4K viewing offerings, expect the number to only climb further.
Why? Because a mere two years ago, the percentage of people streaming the Super Bowl was 8%. Thus, a 200% increase in two years.
It’s a cord-cutting new era in home entertainment, and even something as big as the Super Bowl is catching on — and capitalizing.
