For anyone keeping up with Netflix’s The Crown, Season 5 will be the last. It comes as no surprise considering the show’s timeline is gradually getting closer to modern day.
If show creator Peter Morgan continued beyond Season 5, it would need to touch on stories still relevant now. That would be problematic, considering the show’s inaccuracies surrounding Prince Philip and other royals. Plus, it’d be tough for Netflix not to cast Duchess Meghan as herself, particularly in light of recent news.

Swapping Queens
Oscar-winner Olivia Colman will be replaced by Imelda Staunton in Season 5 of the show. Staunton, who co-starred in A Confession alongside Martin Freeman and Siobhan Finneran, is best known as Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter movies.
Staunton will follow Colman and Claire Foy, each of whom took the role of Queen Elizabeth II at different time periods in her life. So far, both actresses who have played the role have won awards for their performances, so Staunton will have a lot to live up to.
