Revealing a show must be stressful. The negative Nancy in each of us would instantly take over and make us think about potential failure. However, Netflix would take negativity over what actually happened with their new show Messiah. Could there be anything worse than having your big twist revealed Day 1?

Spoiler-free show overview

Created by Dave Petroni (The Rite) and starring Mehdi Dehbi (A Most Wanted Man), the show is about a man who appears to have the ability to perform miracles, vanish and teleport. CIA agent Michelle Monaghan (True Detective) tracks his actions and watches his followers around the world grow. It leaves the question: is he a scam-artist, or the son of god?

It sounds like answering that question is at the core of the show, so it sucks that we already know the answer. We don’t need to wait for the 10 episodes to hit Netflix on January 1, 2020.

If you’re looking for the reveal, continue on. If you don’t want to spoil the show, stop here and avoid searching for Messiah and Netflix. Be warned, the reveal is even on it’s Wikipedia page.

Warning: Twist reveal

The Monty Python Life of Brian quote “he’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy” sums up the Netflix faux pas perfectly. You see, the Messiah turns out to be the Antichrist.

Showing the Arabic name of the lead character is madness when revealing information to diverse audiences. It’s such a dumb thing to unveil considering how eagle-eyed people are.

Another Twitter user expanded on the Arabic prophecy of the Antichrist and said that the Messiah would accidentally lose one eye. Official accounts blocked the user and hid their tweets. That’s another dumb move, because it adds weight to the spoilers.

Despite knowing what happens, the trailer still intrigued enough to make me a believer — in the show. Roll on New Year’s Day.
