Disney+ has launched in Australia, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico. With it came quite a surprise for vigilant fans. The service had far more content and shows than previously announced. Crikey!

Pre-launch, Disney said the service would offer 628 movies and shows, but it launched with 819. So what happened between the announcement and the launch?

Disney+ in a giving mood

The most likely scenario is that Disney wasn’t permitted to say everything that was coming due to previous licensing deals. If not that, then Disney has been very busy this month getting extra content available for excited fans.

Surprisingly, Australia, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico now have more content to watch than North America. Strewth.

Look away now if you don’t want to see what you’re missing.

What the Aussies get

When trying to find the content North America is missing out on, we found the difference between services to be far greater than expected. Many of the titles you’re about to see are big blockbusters bound to make you green with envy. It did us.

A Wrinkle in Time, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Beauty and the Beast (2017), Black Panther, Christopher Robin, Coco, Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent, Mary Poppins Returns, National Treasure 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, The Incredibles 2, The Jungle Book (2016), The Last Jedi, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Thor: Ragnarok, Tomorrowland

Titles including Coco and Solo: A Star Wars Story are coming in 2019. Others like Mary Poppins Returns aren’t available until January 2021.

This is quite a windfall for Australia and New Zealand, who historically get their content much later than anyone else.

Perhaps Disney+ didn’t announce everything releasing in Australia, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico because they knew it would diminish North America’s available content. Considering the differences, this isn’t hard to imagine.

What didn’t they get?

If you’re wondering what Australia, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico didn’t get, look no further, but it is underwhelming.

There’s bound to be more content found over the coming days, so keep checking back as we update this list.
