10. Pluto TV (Geek Rating 6.5/10)

Pluto TV feels old school, just with very niche channels. It’s a must-have service for streaming geeks like me. There’s nothing quite like throwing on the IGN or CNET channels creating the perfect background noise.

Unlike Disney Plus and Paramount Plus, Pluto TV isn’t reliant on big-budget movies and shows. It has new content daily across all of its channels. Pluto TV’s partners include indie movie makers The Asylum, Geek & Sundry, and the Nerdist.

9. Netflix (Geek Rating 7/10)

One of the most well-known streaming services is Netflix with hundreds of shows and movies to binge. For us geeks, it’s a great way to explore favorites like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Love Death Robots and dive into new content like The Mario Bros. Movie.

Avatar is a particular favorite for geeks, as Netflix has both the original animated version from 2005 and the live-action version premiering in February 2024. And for those Ninjago fans, you can enjoy every season and other LEGO classics like The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie.

8. Paramount Plus (Geek Rating 7/10)

Regardless of which side of the Star TrekStar Wars fence you stand on, Paramount Plus has a lot for us geeks. This includes The Twilight Zone, Criminal Minds, Spongebob, and Southpark.

Additionally, Star Trek: Picard Season 3 hit the platform in 2023, and for any sci-fi who hasn’t been watching, it’s well worth the subscription alone. The series is set 20 years after Patrick Stewart last starred as Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Nemesis. It continues from Nemesis and builds on the planet Romulus’ destruction, covered in the 2009 Star Trek J. J. Abrams movie.

7. Prime Video (Geek Rating 7.5/10)

For those who love a mixture of geeky live-action and animated content, try Amazon Prime Video. Accessed through your Amazon Prime Subscription you can get access to tons of great TV shows and movies. These can include Oscar-winning Oppenheimer and Interstellar, or animated classics from the 2010s like Megamind or Madagascar.

Another great option through Prime Video that isn’t always available on other streaming platforms is the ability to rent or buy movies. If Prime doesn’t offer the film or show through the subscription, you can usually still view the content by purchasing or renting it.

6. Hulu (Geek Rating 7.5/10)

Similar to Netflix, Hulu is a huge streaming service known for binge-able shows. Thankfully for us geeks, they have plenty of content for us too. The biggest draw for geeks would be Hulu’s animated section, including shows like Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, American Dad, and Futurama.

For live-action fans, dive into the world of Planet of the Apes, American Horror Story, or Fargo for some action-packed fun. While Hulu may not have geek favorites like Harry Potter or Star Trek, they have great options not as mainstream.

5. HBO Max (Geek Rating 8/10)

One word: Batman. (Surely, that is enough?) For non-Batman fans, you have Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Fringe, Peacemaker, and many more shows to geek out on. Best of all, you can stream The Last of Us on the platform, one of the biggest TV series in recent years.

HBO Max easily rivals Disney Plus with big-name shows. The only reason it doesn’t get a 9/10 is that the DC extended universe is in disarray and we don’t know what’s coming in the future for those characters.

4. Peacock TV (Geek Rating 8.5/10)

From Harry Potter to Jurassic Park/World, Peacock TV has some big hitters in the world of Geeks. So much so, that I’m rethinking its #4 spot with each word typed (however, a simple glance at Disney Plus’s content stops those thoughts dead).

The big hitter in 2023 was The Continental, a John Wick spin-off series that is amazing and drags us back into one of the biggest film franchises in history. And John Woo returned with a movie for Peacock called The Killer, but outside of that – they have three LeBron James movies and we’re on the fence.

3. Crunchyroll (Geek Rating 9/10)

If you know anything about anime, you’ve probably heard of Crunchyroll at least once. Home for all genres of anime and manga, Crunchyroll is a great streaming service for the geeks who love all things animated. The best part about Crunchyroll is they provide both niche and mainstream shows, including titles like Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, One Piece, and Tokyo Ghoul.

While there isn’t much other than anime on Crunchyroll, it is still a geek’s paradise and earns the third spot on our streaming services for geeks list.

2. Disney+ (Geek Rating 9.5/10)

For any geek, the A-list of IPs includes Marvel and Star Wars, and Disney+ has both. So, if you are like us, and LOVE Marvel or Star Wars, this streaming platform is a must-have. If you don’t already have it, there’s so much back catalog to get through, along with fantastic originals like The Mandalorian, Loki, and the newest installment in the Star Wars franchise, The Acolyte.

Simply put, you can not only geek out with many of your favorite characters but you can binge on classics like The Simpsons, X-Files, or The Muppets. The only reason Disney Plus doesn’t get 10/10 is that it doesn’t cover everyone’s favorites like Star Trek or DC.

1. YouTube (Geek Rating 10/10)

If it wasn’t for YouTube I would have no idea about Good Mythical Morning, Crash Course, or gamers like WILDCAT or Dream. YouTube is the biggest streaming service in the world and the second-largest search engine behind Google. The fact it’s accessible anywhere on any device makes it the ultimate geek streaming service.

YouTube creators output so much content and some of it is absolutely amazing quality. Whether you want comic book news, superhero history, or fan-made movies, you can find it on YouTube. There is more content than someone can watch in one lifetime, and whatever your interest, there’s content for you. From conspiracy theories to technology breakdowns, YouTube has it all.
