When Disney+ launches on November 12, many of the parent company’s titles will be immediately available to stream. However, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms‘ release date on Disney+ is November 28, 2020.

The film had its wide release in theaters in November of last year. Since Netflix has an exclusive rights to stream it still in place, its arrival on Disney+ will be belated.

But at least fans of this classic story will still be able to check it out on Netflix in the meantime.

A visually spectacular reimagining of a beloved story

Here’s the official synopsis of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms from Disney:

From the studio that brought you Beauty and the Beast comes the re-imagined tale of The Nutcracker. When Clara’s mother leaves her a key, she embarks on a journey to four secret realms – where she discovers her greatest strength could change the world.

Disney

That description is somewhat telling, because it mentions the title of another film in the Disney catalog before getting around to a brief outline of what’s to come in this flick.

It’s no secret The Nutcracker and the Four Realms didn’t do well at the box office and racked up a sizable budget during production. That isn’t to say there aren’t any redeeming qualities about it, though.

The cast is loaded with credible actors, headlined by Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren and Richard E. Grant.

Mackenzie Foy takes the lead and does well with the material she’s given. This film may not launch her into further stardom due to its box office receipts, yet her excellent work in the smash hit Interstellar should still help that cause.

4K/HDR/Dolby Atmos

The Mouse House is bringing out all the bells, whistles and stunning visuals, which means The Nutcracker and the Four Realms will be presented on Disney+ in 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos.

You won’t have to pay extra for higher quality, either. The $6.99 monthly price tag of Disney+ will offer the best possible presentation of the film in terms of video and audio quality.
