“Mulan” live-action release date on Disney+

The live-action remake of Disney’s animated classic Mulan hits theaters on March 27, 2020, but when will it get its release date on Disney+?

Disney’s new streamer should drop the big-budget title about seven months from its theatrical release, so it’ll be approximately available to subscribers on October 27, 2020.

Read on for more about the film and what to expect when it arrives on Disney+ for streaming.

Disney’s most ambitious remake to date

Here’s an excerpt from the official synopsis:

“The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.”

Disney

Mulan is a beloved story, as the 1998 original is one of the most popular Disney animated features ever. It holds a strong 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, an and 85 percent audience score.

But the stakes are really high for this new edition. Starring Liu Yifei in the titular role, the production budget has soared to an estimated $300 million.

And that production cost doesn’t even account for costs of distribution and marketing. In other words, it’s going to take a ton of box-office success for Mulan to turn a profit.

Based on the limited footage seen so far, it looks like a visual feast. The action sequences should be top-notch, and the cast is exciting. Who doesn’t love Donnie Yen, of recent Rogue One: A Star Wars Story fame? Plus, the legendary Jet Li is playing the Emperor of China.

Will the substance of Mulan‘s story match up accordingly, though? That’s probably the most burning question at this time. This also seems like a grittier, less-musical take — which might actually be a pleasant departure, as opposed to a by-the-numbers remake.

4K/HDR/Dolby Atmos

The Mouse House is bringing out all the bells, whistles and stunning visuals, which means Mulan will be presented on Disney+ in 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos.

You won’t have to pay extra for higher quality, either. The $6.99 monthly price tag of Disney+ will offer the best possible presentation of the film in terms of video and audio quality.
