Since It Ends With Us is based on the 2016 book by Colleen Hoover, it’ll follow the same plot that was inspired by Hoover’s father and mother. Hoover described this book as the hardest one she’s written, as she grew up in an abusive household.

The story will center around the love story between Lily and Ryle and deals with domestic violence and the cycle of violence. Lily unfortunately grew up with an abusive father, and Ryle ended up becoming violent throughout their marriage. When Lily has a surprise encounter with Atlas, after years of not seeing him, she finds a potential escape from the violence.

Sneak Peek at the Trailer

Right away the trailer opens up to intense lyrics in a quiet background, hinting at what’s to come later in the film. From Lily’s flower shop to Ryle’s introduction to her, it seems heartwarming and beautiful, but it quickly makes a turn as viewers can see the abusive side of the story.

From throwing things to the manipulative apologies, the movie will be heavy. On the other side, we see a beautiful reconnection of Atlas and Lily, along with their childhood romance that shows a calmer side to romance, a beautiful story laced with hard topics.

A Surprising Cast

Let’s find out what to expect from It Ends With Us regarding the cast members now. The controversy doesn’t stop at just the book and Hoover’s acknowledgment of her writing though. The movie has also gotten some backlash already. Fans aren’t enjoying the fact that the cast is older than the book characters. However, Hoover has come forward to explain that she should have written the novel, not as a young adult book, which was popular during the time of publishing, but as believable ages, older ages.

The cast includes Blake Lively as Lily Bloom, a well-known actress for her amazing performances in titles like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Accepted, Gossip Girl, Savages, and The Age of Adaline.

Ryle Kincaid is played by Justin Baldoni, an actor, filmmaker, and author. He’s best known for his roles in Jane the Virgin and his time on children’s TV show, Zack & Cody. He also has directed Five Feet Apart and Clouds.

Brandon Sklenar will be playing Atlas Corrigan, Lily’s old flame who promised to come back for her. His known roles are in the TV series 1923 and Westworld, and once again fans are not excited to see him on screen, as they were hoping for someone younger and more “gentle”, like Jacob Elordi.

Other roles include Jenny Slate as Allysa Kincaid, who played in shows like Parks and Recreation and Obvious Child. Hasan Minhaj is Marshall.

The Release Date

While It Ends With Us was supposed to be released on February 9 2024 initially, after two pushed dates, it’s not set for August 9, 2024.
