Dana Thomas Carvey is a comedian, actor, screenwriter, and producer who has been in a few movies you might know and love today. Carvey is best known for his seven seasons on Saturday Night Live from 1986 to 1993. Starting the list with a 2017 documentary, this is one of the best Dana Carvey movies you should watch to get a grasp of who he is. The film is available on Hulu and explores the creation and the downfall of The Dana Carvey Show, a short-lived surreal sketch comedy show that aired on ABC during the spring of 1996. In the documentary, creators, cast, and network executives recount the strange history of the show, giving some insight and feedback on what it was and why it was canceled.

11. Moving, Prime Video (1988)
Moving is a 1988 comedy film starring Richard Pryor as Arlo Pear as well as Beverly Todd, Dave Thomas, Dana Carvey, and Randy Quaid. The movie follows Pear who accepts what seems to him to be a dream promotion to Idaho and moves his family across the country. However, he soon discovers that moving has its problems that he never imagined.

10. The Road to Wellville, Peacock and Prime Video (1994)
The Road to Wellville is a 1994 comedy-drama film written, produced, and directed by Alan Parker as an adaptation of T. Coraghessan Boyle’s novel sharing the same name. The movie follows William Lightbody’s stay at the health farm run by cereal King Dr. John Harvey Kellog. William’s wife, Eleanor, has persuaded him to go to Kellogg to have his system cleaned of impurities. Kellogg is very unconventional and almost barbaric in his treatments.

9. Little Nicky, Prime Video (2000)
While Carvey isn’t front and center during this film, it’s still one of the best Dana Carvey movies on the list. Little Nicky is a fantasy comedy film directed by Steven Brill and written by Tim Herlihy, Adam Sandler, and Brill, starring Sandler in the title role. The film follows the son of Satan and an angel who is tasked with returning his two brothers to Hell and preventing them from destroying the boundary between good and evil on Earth. While the film received some negative reviews, it’s still one of the best in my opinion, and Carvey as the referee played a great role.

8. The Master of Disguise, Netflix and Prime (2002)
The Master of Disguise is a 2002 adventure comedy film directed by production designer Perry Andeline Blake in his sole directorial effort, written and starring Dana Carvey. The story follows a sweet-natured Italian waiter, Pistachio Disguisey, who happens to be a member of a family with supernatural skills of disguise. When the patriarch of the Disguisey family is kidnapped, Pistachio must use his powers to fight off a criminal mastermind who is attempting to steal the world’s most precious treasures from around the world.

7. Trapped in Paradise, Showtime and Prime (1994)
Changing directions just slightly to a holiday film, one of the best Dana Carvey movies is Trapped in Paradise, a 1994 Christmas-themed crime comedy film written and directed by George Gallo starring Nicolas Cage, Jon Lovitz, and Carvey. The film follows residents of a friendly Pennsylvania town, and amongst them are three brothers who plan to rob a bank on Christmas Eve.

6. Clean Slate, Amazon (1994)
Yet another comedy film, Clean Slate is a 1994 film directed by Mick Jackson and stars Dana Carvey. The film follows Carvey who plays the role of a private investigator who is the key witness in a murder case. After suffering from a head injury, however, he developed a rare form of amnesia that causes him to forget anything that happened to him the previous day, which makes his investigation even harder.

5. The Secret Life of Pets, Prime Video (2016)
One of the most recent films, and one of the best Dana Carvey movies, is The Secret Life of Pets, which is a 2016 animated comedy film produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures. The movie stars various voices who play various pets. The story follows the quiet life of a terrier named Max who is upended when his owner takes in Duke, a stray whom Max instantly dislikes. Carvey plays Pops in the film, an elderly Basset Hound who is paralyzed in his back legs.

4. Tough Guys, Prime Video (1986)
As his first major role in film, Tough Guys is one that you don’t want to miss out on. If you’re watching through the best Dana Carvey films, add this to the list. The 1986 action comedy film was directed by Jeff Kanew and stars Dana Carvey, Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Eli Wallach, and more. It’s the eighth film of Touchstone Pictures, and the final film to be released from Douglas’s Bryna Productions. The film follows two elderly gangsters who are released from prison only to find they have trouble fitting in as old men who still take no guff from anyone.

3. Wayne’s World 2, Max and Prime (1993)
The second film of the amazing movie, Wayne’s World, is next on our list for best Dana Carvey movies. The 1993 comedy film came out a year after the first and was directed by Stephen Surjik starring Mike Myers and Carvey who host a public-access television cable show in Aurora, Illinois. In this film, the inseparable duo tries to organize a rock concert while Wayne must fend off a record producer who has an eye for his girlfriend.

2. Opportunity Knocks, Prime Video (1990)
One of the many movies that Dana Carvey is known for is Opportunity Knocks, a 1990 comedy film starring him and directed by Donald Petrie. The movie follows two con men who hide out in a house while the owner is away. One of them assumes the identity of the absent house sitter when the owner’s relatives come to visit, only for further complications to set in. It’s one of Dana Carvey’s better films and one you have to check out.

1. Wayne’s World, Max and Prime Video (1992)
And of course, at our number one spot for best Dana Carvey movies, we have Wayne’s World. This is a personal favorite of mine and is one that Carvey is most likely known for the most. This 1992 comedy film was directed by Penelope Spheeris and produced by Lorne Michaels, written by Mike Myers and Bonnie & Terry Turner. The movie is based on a SNL sketch, Wayne’s World. The show follows two slacker friends who try to promote their public-access cable show.
