The book follows a relationship between 19-year-old girl named Tish and 22-year-old sculpture named Fonny, who both fall in love and get engaged.
However, the movie and novel take place right after Fonny has been falsely accused of raping a woman and arrested and jailed awaiting trial. When Tish realizes that she’s pregnant, she relies on Fonny’s family for support while trying to come up with evidence of his innocence.
This is another film that Pedro Pascal plays a smaller role, but still does an incredible job. In the film, Pascal plays Pietro Alvarez, who sets up a meeting between Sharon, Tish’s mother, and Victoria, a rape victim who misidentifies Fonny.
