Pixar’s Soul will enjoy a wide theatrical release on June 19, 2020, but when will the upcoming animated film have its release date on Disney+?
We can assume its premiere on Disney’s brand-new streamer will be approximately January 19, 2021, based on when it hits multiplexes.
Disney+ already owns exclusive streaming rights to Pixar’s catalog. Now it has this gem to look forward to in ringing in the next new year.
A metaphysical musical?
Here’s the quick synopsis from IMDB:
A musician who has lost his passion for music is transported out of his body and must find his way back with the help of an infant soul learning about herself.
IMDB
Jamie Foxx plays the musician, while Tina Fey voices the “infant soul.” Both actors have tremendous musical capabilities.
Foxx won a Best Actor Oscar for playing Ray Charles in the biopic, Ray. Fey created a musical adaptation of her mega-hit Mean Girls and earned a Tony Award nomination.
In addition to assembling great talent and beautiful visuals, Soul should pack Pixar’s trademark emotional punch.
The studio’s other recent, musically-charged offering Coco dealt with protagonist Miguel crossing over into the Land of the Dead. Soul seems in that spirit, yet with only a tease of the plot to go off of, it’s tantalizingly mysterious.
It’s going to be a big year for the studio at the multiplex. In addition to Soul, Pixar is releasing Onward, on March 6, 2020, and that should be on Disney+ by October.
4K/HDR/Dolby Atmos
The Mouse House is bringing out all the bells, whistles and stunning visuals, which means Soul will be presented on Disney+ in 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos.
You won’t have to pay extra for higher quality, either. The $6.99 monthly price tag of Disney+ will offer the best possible presentation of the film in terms of video and audio quality.
