The most magical nanny ever flew back into theaters worldwide last December, which pushes back the Mary Poppins Returns release date on Disney+.

Fans can see Emily Blunt take over Julie Andrews’ iconic role in this film on Disney+ beginning on January 9th, 2021.

The new streaming provider itself launches on November 12, and many of its family-friendly movies will be instantly available.

Although this film isn’t one of them, fans need not fear. Anyone can still enjoy Mary Poppins Returns on Netflix until the aforementioned date.

A belated sequel to an iconic classic

Here’s a quick synopsis of the movie:

The magic continues in Disney’s classic as Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) helps the Banks family remember the joy of being a child. Together with her friend Jack the lamplighter (Lin-Manuel Miranda), fun is brought back to the streets of London in celebration that everything is possible…even the impossible.

Disney

Any actor stepping into Mary Poppins’ shoes could shudder and shrink under the weight of expectations. However, Emily Blunt does a fantastic job in the legendary role.

Capitalizing on nostalgia and preexisting IPs has been a criticism of Disney lately. In some cases that’d be fair, yet this sequel is a delight.

Among the standouts in the new cast is Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton fame. Oh, and don’t forget the return of Dick Van Dyke. He’ll turn 94 in December, and shows in his brief role he still has some serious dancing chops.

4K/HDR/Dolby Atmos

The Mouse House is bringing out all the bells, whistles and stunning visuals, which means Mary Poppins Returns will be presented on Disney+ in 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos.

You won’t have to pay extra for higher quality, either. The $6.99 monthly price tag of Disney+ will offer the best possible presentation of Mary Poppins Returns in terms of video and audio quality.
