Usually, the first movie in a film series is the best, but there are times when sequels are better. This is not the case for these six movies, which can be considered the worst sequels of all time. Whether it’s due to poor casting, storylines, or other reasons, these six films didn’t make the cut.
6. The Sting II (1983)
Our sixth selection is Sting II, which let the first film down in several ways, with the biggest one being recasting. The second film was made with Robert Redford replaced by Mac Davis and Paul Newman replaced by Jackie Gleason, giving the whole film a “redo” feel instead of a sequel. A new team of cons may have joined the franchise, but the storyline is nearly the same as the original.

5. Caddyshack II (1988)
Even though the first Caddyshack film was a hit in theaters, it couldn’t save the disaster of its sequel in 1988. Caddyshack II features a crass new-money tycoon whose membership is turned down at a snooty country club. His response? Buying the club and turning it into a tacky amusement park. Handicapped by its PG rating; even with a talented cast they still couldn’t save it from disaster.

4. Jaws: The Revenge (1987)
The infamous shark returns in Jaws: The Revenge but sadly does not live up to high expectations. In the second film, Ellen Brody’s family has been plagued by shark attacks, which continues when her son dies by a great white. She visits her other son in the Bahamas and meets another man, but the presence of yet another huge shark plunges her back into the world of great whites. Along with cut-rate special effects, the second Jaws film is tension-free and a “sorry chapter in the franchise.”

3. 365 Days: This Day (2022)
When 365 Days first came out, it simultaneously shocked and aroused viewers with its graphic content, revealing the tension between Laura and Massimo as they spent more time together. When 365 Days: This Day came out though, it had quite the opposite effect. Seen as confusing, problematic, less sexy, and lazy, this sequel is one you don’t want to add to your watchlist.

2. Staying Alive (1983)
Even with John Travolta leading Staying Alive, it received poor reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film takes place five years after Saturday Night Fever with Tony Manero taking on his biggest challenge yet: succeeding as a dancer on Broadway. The film is unnecessary and trades in the original film’s depth for tacky dance sequences.

1. Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 (2004)
At number one is Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, whose first movie also flopped in the ratings. In the second film, a new batch of toddlers must untangle themselves from the powerful media mogul Bill Biscane. Critics see this movie as “further proof that bad jokes still aren’t funny when coming from the mouths of babies.”
