It’s awards season for all things entertainment, with the 96th Academy Awards ceremony premiering on March 10th. If you watched the ceremony, then I think we could agree that this year’s was full of laughs, tears, and memorable moments we will be talking about for days to come. However, if you didn’t watch the Oscars no need to worry, we have rounded up the top ten Oscars funny moments right here.
10. State of the Union Rebuttal
Our first 2024 Oscars funny moment comes towards the beginning of the night when Jimmy Kimmel is recognizing some of the notable films nominated, including Oppenheimer, Barbie, and Poor Things. His explanation of Poor Things is especially funny as he compares Bella Baxter and her childish ways to the lady who gave a rebuttal at the State of the Union address. Kimmel comments that both “are grown women with the brain of a child.”

9. Emma Stone’s Dress Malfunction Speech
Emma Stone‘s speech was beautiful along with her dress…until it broke. Stone received the 2024 Best Actress in a Leading Role Award for her portrayal of Bella Baxter in Poor Things, and everything was going great until her zipper popped open. It, unfortunately, took away from her speech but did give a little levity to her tear-jerking comment about her daughter turning three in three days.

8. Jurassic Park Wasn’t Real?
Each group of presenters brought their own skits to the table and for America Ferrera and Kate McKinnon, they chose to delve into the world of documentaries and why Jurassic Park wasn’t real. McKinnon is adamant that the film series are completely true, while her co-presenter Ferrera has to gently acknowledge that every dinosaur was created by CGI.
If that wasn’t funny enough, McKinnon makes a comment at the end about sending tasteful nudes to Jeff Goldblum, which actually ended up in Steven Spielberg’s inbox. Oops!

7. Jimmy Kimmel Reading Reviews
Jimmy Kimmel was a good choice for the Oscars, giving both comedy and seriousness that upstages some of the other Awards presenters (*cough* Jo Koy *cough*) in 2024. One of his last jokes of the night was concerned with reviews. Kimmel pulled out his phone and was scrolling, finding a review that bashed his performance and ended with the phrase “Make America Great Again.” This of course gets the crowd laughing, but the best part was when Kimmel asked “Isn’t it past your jail time?” Yikes.
6. Madame Web
There were many jokes concerning the actors and actresses in attendance at the 2024 Oscars, but there were a couple aimed at films too. One of these, not surprisingly, was the new film Madame Web. In addition to Kimmel making a dig about the potential the film had, John Mulaney also commented on Madame Web in his presentation of the Best Sound Award.
Mulaney commented, “Without sound, we wouldn’t have been able to hear such classic lines as ‘You’re gonna need a bigger boat,’ ‘I’ll have what she’s having’ and ‘He was in the Amazon with my mother when she was researching spiders just before she died.'” His witty comments have increased fan’s wishes to see him host a future Oscars ceremony.

5. Guillermo Rodriguez’s Toast
If you’ve watched Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show, then there’s a high chance you know who Guillermo Rodriguez is. Starting as a parking lot security guard for talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, he has become a sidekick in Kimmel’s talk show appearing in most episodes. He has also followed Kimmel to the 2024 Oscars, where Rodriguez interrupts him to give a toast with tequila shots scattered in the audience. It’s a great interaction between the two personalities, and gives the audience a quick laugh before diving into the next award.

4. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito vs. Batman
Also known as the State Farm duo, Schwarzenegger and DeVito starred in a Super Bowl commercial for the insurance company. Coming together again for the 2024 Oscars, their new skit includes Batman. As Schwarzenegger and DeVito talk about their similarities, they realize they’ve both been beaten by Batman. The camera pans to Michael Keaten, their nemesis, and the three go back and forth, with DeVito warning “We’ll see you at the Governor’s Ball.” The best part about the interaction was when Schwarzenegger claimed, “You have a lot of nerve to show your face tonight.”
3. Barbenheimer Debate Continued
Ever since both films premiered on the same day, Barbie and Oppenheimer have gone back and forth debating which is the best movie. The feud continues at the 2024 Oscars when Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling pay tribute to all of the stunt crews that make movies happen, also indirectly promoting their new film The Fall Guy coming out this year. Some of the more memorable jibes include Gosling claiming Oppenheimer rode Barbie’s coattails all summer long, while Blunt accuses Gosling of painting his abs for the role. I can’t wait to see them interact together in The Fall Guy with this amount of chemistry.
2. “I’m Just Ken” Performance
We couldn’t create a list of the Oscars’ funny moments without including the “I’m Just Ken” performance by Ryan Gosling. Dressed in a hot pink bedazzled suit, Gosling dives right back into his role as Ken to pull off a stellar performance. Included in the performance were Mark Ronson and Slash from Guns and Roses, and we can’t forget fellow Kens from the film Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Ncuti Gatwa! Gosling’s voice was really good, and actually sounded better than some of the other live performances of the night.
The best part was at the end where Gosling went around to fellow Barbie stars and Emma Stone, all letting them belt the lyrics into the mic. What a show!

1. John Cena Presents Costumes / 2024 Oscars Funny Moments
Our final Oscars funny moment went viral immediately after the show ended. Costumes are great, but sometimes the best costume is nothing at all, and John Cena proved this while hiding behind a pillar. Fifty years after the 1974 Oscars where a streaker ran across the stage, the camera pans to a pillar where John Cena is hiding…with nothing on. Cena tells Kimmel he doesn’t want to do the skit anymore, and instead shuffles onto the stage with only sandals and a placard covering himself.
It’s hysterically funny, and even after getting covered in drapes, the irony of presenting the Best Costume Oscar is not lost on the audience. Bravo, John Cena.
