Sometimes a movie just finishes really weirdly. You can’t really explain it, you can’t really put your finger on it, you just finish the film with that feeling in your gut and the question in your head, “what just happened?” Sometimes that question can be satisfying. So, when you want that confusion and that weirdness, here are 6 movies with weird endings.
6. The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
The Matrix Reloaded, the sequel to The Matrix, a film about hacker Neo who learns about the Matrix, a computer-simulated world designed to keep humans under control. The Matrix Reloaded follows Neo and his team as they break into a hidden building that contains the source of the Matrix.
Though The Matrix Reloaded is often thought of as the best of the sequels, that does not diminish the weirdness of the ending. The film ends quite ambiguous, making it seem that the next sequel will answer the questions left at the end. However, the next film does not, leaving the end of The Matrix Reloaded seeming nonsensical and one of the many movies with weird endings.
5. Lucy (2014)
Lucy is a film starring Scarlett Johansson following a woman who is forced to work as a drug mule but accidentally develops superhuman abilities after a drug leaks into her system.
The plot of Lucy is out there to begin with. However, Lucy definitely qualifies as one of the movies with weird endings. However, the film never explains how a drug could allow a human that kind of power, leaving the audience in question with a sense of weirdness.
4. Inception (2010)
Inception is a Christopher Nolan film about a thief who steals corporate secrets through dream-sharing technology and is given the task of putting the idea into the mind of a C.E.O. However, his tragic past may ruin his project and lead his team to disaster.
Inception leaves viewers left in confusion at the end. Exploring the idea of a dream world, the end leaves viewers unsure whether the main character is still in the dream world or has re-entered the real world, both offering contradictions.
3. Chinatown (1974)
Chinatown is a 1974 film following a private detective, played by Jack Nicholson, who is hired to expose an adulterer in 1930s Los Angeles but then finds himself caught up in deception, corruption, and murder.

Tenet, another Christopher Nolan film, follows a secret agent who learns to manipulate the flow of time to prevent an attack from the future that threatens to destroy the current time.
Though Tenet is considered to be one of the best time-travel movies of all time, it is still super weird. The ending of the film leaves no clear explanation of how the time loop comes together. Nolan leaves viewers to speculate about the ending, but there is not really a probable answer to how everything comes together. So, viewers are left confused and full of questions, making it number one in our list of movies with weird endings.
