The good news is that there are so many amazing movies to look forward to in 2023. In order to keep you updated on the movies being released, we’ve rounded up a list of the top 30 most anticipated this year. That way, you can plan to be ahead of the curve and see these movies right after they come out.
1. Magic Mike’s Last Dance, February 10th
Magic Mike’s Last Dance is a much anticipated sequel making it the 3rd film in this franchise. This movie focuses in on Mike taking the stage again after a deal leaves him broke. Mike heads to London because a wealthy socialite makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Everything he has is on the line, so he has to whip new dancers into shape.
2. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantomania, February 17th
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantomania is about Scott Lang, the Ant-Man, and Hope Van Dyne who find themselves exploring a quantum realm. They end up interacting with strange new creatures and going on an adventure that will push them past the limits they ever thought were possible. This makes the third Ant-Man film from Marvel Studios, so you know it will draw big crowds when released.
3. Creed III, March 3rd
Creed III shows the always thriving, Michael B. Jordan, back again as Donnie who is doing great in his career and family life. A childhood friend who used to be a former boxing prodigy comes back into his life in this third Creed film. Damian served a long sentence in prison and he is eager to show that he deserves a shot in the ring against Donnie.
4. Scream VI, March 10th
Scream VI is about four survivors of the Ghostface murders. They leave Woodsboro to have a fresh start in New York City. A new Ghostface killer has other ideas when he embarks on a bloody rampage and the survivors have to fight for their lives.
5. Shazam! Fury of the Gods, March 17th
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is about teenagers learning to juggle everyday life along with their superhero alter egos. Meanwhile, a vengeful trio of ancient gods arrive on earth to steal back the magic that was taken from them so long ago. Shazam and his allies must fight for their lives because the world’s fate is in their hands.
6. John Wick: Chapter 4, March 24th
John Wick: Chapter 4 is another John Wick film, which promises a thrilling and action-packed on-screen experience. John has a price on his head that increases daily, so he must fight The High Table all over the world. As he searches for the most influential players in the criminal underworld, he visits New York, Paris, Japan, and Berlin fighting for his life and freedom.
7. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, March 31st
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the popular role-playing game to life with a touch of hilarity on the movie screen. A charming thief and a group of adventurers go on an epic quest to recover a long-lost relic. When they run into the wrong kind of people along the way, things start to go south fast.
8. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, April 7th
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is another story that brings a game to life. It’s about a plumber named Mario who travels through the Mushroom Kingdom. He tries to put a stop to Bowser, his enemy, who is stealing all the stars. Mario faces many challenges to get to Bowser before it is too late and he has control of everything. This movie is definitely one to watch with the whole family in April.
9. Renfield, April 14th
Renfield stars Nic Cage as Dracula and Nicholas Hoult as Renfield, his tortured aide. Renfield is forced to acquire the master’s prey and do his every bidding. After centuries with narcissistic Dracula, he is ready to see what life looks like outside of Dracula’s control.
10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, May 5th
2023 seems to be the year of sequels and specifically, the third movie in a franchise. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been much anticipated since the tragic loss of Gamora. Peter Quill is still coming to terms with what happened as he gathers his team to defend the universe once again. This mission could lead to the end of the Guardians if they are not successful. As always, this movie will be action-packed with a few laughs thrown in.
11. Book Club: The Next Chapter, May 12th
Book Club: The Next Chapter is a sequel to the story about four best friends who read 50 Shades of Grey in their book club. This time, they take their book club to Italy to celebrate a friend who just got engaged. This fun girls’ trip goes off the rails and secrets end up being revealed. Their relaxing vacation turns into an adventure across the country that is guaranteed to be memorable.
12. Fast X, May 19th
Fast X is the final movie in the Fast and the Furious movie franchise. There is no plot released for the movie yet, but if we know anything about these movies, it will be action-packed and thrilling. Stay tuned to learn more about how this 8+ movie franchise will end.
13. The Little Mermaid, May 26th
The Little Mermaid is a live-action remake of this classic Disney animated film. It has sparked lots of conversations since its announcement because of their casting. Leads include Halle Bailey as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and Javier Bardem as King Triton. As the story goes, a young mermaid makes a deal with a sea witch to trade in her voice for human legs. She wants to discover the world above water and impress a prince she falls for. Be sure to book your tickets to this release in advance as it is expected to bring in tons of movie watchers this summer.

14. The Boogeyman, June 2nd
The Boogeyman is about a man named Lester Billings who is seeing a psychiatrist because he believes the boogeyman is terrorizing him and killed all three of his children. Each child’s death has to do with mysterious factors. This movie has been adapted from Stephen King’s novel, “The Boogeyman,” so you can be sure it will be terrifying.
15. Transformers: Rise of The Beasts, June 9th
Transformers: Rise of The Beasts is another movie in the Transformers franchise where cars turn into robotic animals.While the specific plot is unknown, a new darkness comes to earth and it’s something Prime has never encountered before.
16. The Flash, June 16th
Based on the comic book superhero, The Flash, this movie shows Barry Allen traveling back in time to prevent his mother from getting murdered. He unintentionally ends up causing a change that results in a creation of a multiverse world. Characters like Batman and Supergirl make appearances.
17. Insidious: Fear The Dark, July 7th
Insidious: Fear The Dark is about the Lambert family ten years after their last encounter with the demons. Josh heads east to drop his son Dalton off at college. Dalton goes through a living nightmare of his past at college. Something has has returned to haunt him and his father. If we learned anything from the first Insidious film, do not watch if easily scared.
18. Barbie, July 21st
Barbie is definitely one of the most anticipated movies of 2023 because of the media buzz over Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Hollywood rumors have stated that both co-stars got $12.5 million for their roles.
Based off of Mattel’s Barbie Doll, the movie centers around the doll living in a perfect world, Barbie Land, until she is forced to leave because of her imperfections. This begins an adventure in the real world and she discovers that perfection can be found within herself.
19. The Marvels, July 28th
The Marvels is the sequel to Captain Marvel where Carol Danvers becomes one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel universe. While the exact plot is not yet released, it has to do with phase five of the superheroes. You can expect to see Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson in this movie.
20. The Meg 2: The Trench, August 4th
The Meg 2: The Trench is the sequel to The Meg, which came out in 2018 and showed scientists exploring the Marianas Trench and then encountering, the Megalodon, an extreme marine predator. There is no plot released yet about the movie, but we will update you when there is.
21. Haunted Mansion, August 11th
Much like the 2003 film, Disney’s Haunted Mansion is about a single mom named Gabbie who hires a tour guide, a psychic, a priest, and a historian to help with her newly purchased mansion. She discovers it is occupied by ghosts and tries to figure out a way to get them to move on.
22. The Equalizer 3, September 1st
The Equalizer 3 is the sequel to The Equalizer and The Equalizer 2. It is about the former operative, Robert McCall, who rescues people he loves from exploitation. We know it will be a vigilante action film, but the plot is not yet released. We’ll be sure to update when it is.
23. The Nun 2, September 8th
The Nun 2 is the sequel to The Nun, which is a horror film that came out in 2018. There is no plot released yet, but we think it will once again be linked to a demonic nun and the inexplicable forces that took over the first film.
24. The Expendables 4, September 22nd
The Expendables 4 is the fourth movie in the Expendables franchise about Ross and his gang who go up against an arms dealer and their private army. It stars Sylvester Stallone, Megan Fox, and Jason Statham and will bring thrilling action to the screen as each movie before it has.
25. The Underdoggs, October 20th
The Underdoggs tells a story about Jaycen Jenning, a former NFL superstar, who has a choice to coach a youth football team in place of going to prison. He hopes to relaunch his fledging football career if he can pull this youth team together.
26. Saw X, October 27th
Saw X is another sequel to the Saw movies. The first movie was released in 2004 and the notoriously scary movie franchise is known for a serial killer tormenting people with games. This next version of the story features new games and twists that will lead to desperate attempts at escape and survival.
27. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, November 17th
As another book by Suzanne Collins comes to the big screen, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is awaited by fans everywhere. The story is a spin-off and a prequel to The Hunger Games trilogy, so it will portray some of the history of the Hunger Games event that we know well. In this movie, Coriolanus Snow mentors a female from District 12 during the 10th Hunger Games, but develops serious feelings for her, complicating the game.
28. Wonka, December 15th
Wonka is another movie that fans cannot wait to see this year. Starring Timothée Chalamet, this movie tells the story of Willy Wonka when he was younger and how he met the Oompa Loompas during his earliest adventures. If you liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you should definitely add this prequel’s release date to your calendar.
29. Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2, December 20th
Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 picks up where Ghostbusters: Afterlife left off. After the Spengler family discovers they are connected to the original Ghostbusters, they return to the one place where it all started: New York City. There, they encounter a new group of Ghostbusters. More information to come as they release teasers later this year.
30. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, December 25th
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a sequel to Aquaman that came out in 2018. There is no plot released yet, but we know Jason Momoa will be back defending the kingdom of Atlantis. More to come once a trailer is released.
